Leaving Us

Leaving Us
It was my animation film proposal to Hothouse 2013 of NFB of Canada.

Animation
"Leaving Us" is one minute film that tells the story of a woman who wanted to fly away.
The film will be done in abstract style close to cubism and constructivism twenties of
the last century. The narrative of the film is pretty simple, but all visual is very complex
and based on constant interaction between colors, shapes and space. The whole
animation will be drawn on paper .The drawings then will be scanned into the
computer, where they'll be composited and colored, and the camera moves will be
added. (*)The film opens with a scene where the camera is pointing up from the
ground. We see the facade of the apartment building and sky. The next moment we
hear the sound of breaking glass from the top floor, the pieces of broken window begin
to falling down. The camera moves to the level of the middle of the house. The glass
pieces are quickly approaching camera and turning blue, iridescent, geometric cloud.
That cloud flying past the camera and continue to fall to the ground. The camera pans
over and we see as are debris finally reaches the earth's surface. Next scene start
exactly as a first one, camera pointing right up to the sky from the ground level. From
the top floor where the broken window is, somebody start tossing out armfuls of
clothes. Clothing is flying down as an bunch of mixed colored shapes. Very quickly
they fill an entire screen. Clothing flies down and replaced by a new portion of the
ejected from above. Colors and shapes continuously replacing each other and
happening on the screen resembles us a kaleidoscope. This continues for about fifteen
seconds. Suddenly this colorful rhythm literally bursting with something white. It's
coming closer, and somehow our mind recognize in it girl’s body. For a split second our
entire screen goes entire white. Then for a while we continue to see colored spots
residues falling clothes. Once more camera goes to the middle of the building and
turns down. On the ground, at the middle of multi-colored spots, in which red is
dominated, we sees a white silhouette of the shattered girl. Next scene. Camera slowly
zooming to the side of the building and gradually level up with a broken window. Fadeout.
The end.

I created new short animated surrealistic film Dreams of New Moon for Third Annual Competition iAniMagic2013 by Kdan Mobile Software Ltd. My film earn 143 votes from online voters. It is a third result over all 91, submitted this year, films. I considered this result as very promising and cheerful. Any way final results of the competition will be announced on Kdan website on 14 October. Will see then.

Yesterday, 19 July 2013 I got this letter in response to my previous months submission to NFB Hothouse 9. As you can see, it's rejection letter. What I can say? Maybe next time I'll have better luck?
Dear All,
The selections for Hothouse 9 have been made. Regrettably your proposals were not among the 6 finally selected this year.
We received 99 applications and, needless to say, competition was fierce and debate was heated in an effort to fill the 6 available spots.
Names of the successful applicants will be posted in the coming days on nfb.ca/hothouse
We hope to post some of the apprenticeship experiences on the NFB blog during the production months.
Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas and stories with us. We hope you'll keep us on your radar for future editions and wish you all the best in your work ahead.

Free Music Archive: Violeta Päivänkakkara - Kuu

Violeta's songs remainder me my childhood. The times when light was bright, clock was slow and space endless and mysterious... Time when I was small.

My new one minute animation "Interconnection of Our Dreams"

Couple days ago passed a dead line for submitting an animation to Toronto Urban Film Festival.

As always, I submitted my film almost among the last. But this time submitting become some kind of delaying record for me. To be completely accurate, I brought my film on the day later the official deadline! Belive me, I had my perfectly legal reasons to do so because festival didn't have working submission mechanism for the last day which was Sunday. Office was close and even didn't have a drop box by the doors. I couldn't upload a 980 Mb file either... But, thanks to the reasonable and receptive staff of the TUFF, who respond to my urgent e-mail promptly with vital information about possibility to bring my film in by Monday morning. End of story. At the end of July TUFF will decide which films is selected for showing. As I just find it out, this year was submitted more then 400 films! People sent films from all around the word. Incredible!
